SCHEDULE FOR 2018-2018
You need to ATTEND a minimum of 7 classes to be eligible for a trophy.
(You are allowed to make up 2 missed classes–check with instructors)
PARENTS—Please Note: Please do not to sign up if your child will be participating in something that will (knowingly) overlap this class (other sports teams’ games, practice or lessons; concerts, etc.) There is always a waiting list and it would be better to let someone else have the spot who can commit to all lessons.
November 4th: MEET AT 9:00AM at SHOTGUN SHACK. The first meeting will include an overview of safety, proper shotgun handling, trap etiquette and basic instruction for shooting straight away moving clay targets, and gun fitting. After the initial overview and gun fitting, targets will be shot by the students.
Remaining classes starting times will depend on squad assigned to. There will be 3 squads of 5 shooters.
Nov. 18th: Basic shotgun handling for home, field and range. The lesson for this week is dedicated to shooting Singles from the 16yard line. These targets will be thrown at legal angles and speeds for trap shooting. Shooters will learn basics on gun position, body position and when to fire at the targets. When coaching, we will instruct on Stance, Mount, Call, Identify the Target, Swing the Gun, Fire, and FOLLOW THROUGH!
Dec. 2nd: Review of gun handling safety and basics for shooting moving targets from the 16-yard line. By now the student’s skill levels will have improved, provided they have paid attention and have practiced.
Dec. 16th: Review of shooting basics and safety, instruction for shooting Continental targets (the lesson will be adjusted by reducing the speed of the targets). All angles will be normal Continental angles. In addition, all targets will be shot from the 17yard line. Two shots per target are allowed. You will need 50+ shells.
Jan. 6th: Review gun handling, safety, hands on instruction for shooting Continental targets. Legal speed and full field targets will be thrown.
Jan. 20th: Review basic instruction for Continental shooting, call and shoot 25 Continental targets. Two shots should be fired per target, if you break the target with the first shot, shoot a chip, these chips count for score.
Feb. 3rd: Safety review. Review shooting techniques for 16 yard (singles) and review for Continental shooting basics. We will begin the Introduction to basic 5- Stand shooting and etiquette. Students will shoot at 25, 5- Stand Targets.
Feb. 17th: Safety review, review 5 Stand etiquette, full Field (13 houses) Five Stand Shooting. Shooting begins at 9:00 am today.
March 3rd: Review safety, 5-Stand shooting. Vote for discipline they want to shoot at final class. Shooting begins at 9:00 am today.
Mar. 17th: END OF COURSE CELEBRATION AND SHOOT- OFF! THE DISCIPLINE TO BE SHOT WILL BE ANNOUNCED THAT DAY. PIZZA AND ICE CREAM PROVIDED. TROPHIES WILL BE AWARDED AT THIS TIME. THIS MEETING WILL RUN A LITTLE LONGER THAN USUAL. Shooting begins at 9:00 am today.
