We offer a variety of NRA certified classes.

Please consult the current web site calendar pages to see the scheduled dates of upcoming classes or call the Range Office for more information.

Note: Registration for NRA courses will redirect you to the NRA website. Once on the NRA site, if you attempt to click on the course and nothing comes up it means that the class is not running that month. Please select a different month for the course you are interested in.

Home Firearm Safety
A four-hour class in basic firearm safety. There is no live-firing in this class. Upon successful completion of this non-shooting class the student will know:

The 3 Rules of Gun Safety

How to Recognize and Safely UNLOAD the 8 Basic Firearms Types (Actions)

How to Clean a Firearm

How to Store Firearms and Ammunition Safely

Classes are conducted on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30am to about 1:30pm in the Chalet classroom.

Cost: $15 per adult. Each adult may bring up to 2 children (age 12 or under) at no additional charge. Only one certificate of completion will be awarded to each paying client.

This class is suitable for the entire family. Children under the age of 8 years old may not be able to physically complete all the requirements of the class. However, we have had children as young as 6 years of age complete it successfully.

Required Materials: Pen or pencil and a notepad.

NRA First Steps Beginning Shotgun
A 5 to 5½ hour class in shotgun-specific safety and shooting skills. Approximately ½ of the class consists of live-firing on the range. Intended for the first-time shooter.

  • Shotgun Shooting Fundamentals
  • Cleaning and Safe Storage of Shotguns
  • Recreational Opportunities Available

Classes are conducted on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30am to about 3:00pm in the Chalet classroom.

Cost: $35 per student. The class fee includes 2 rounds of Trap Shooting at a time of your choosing after the class – the equivalent of a $11.00 rebate.

Students under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by their parent.

Shotguns are available to borrow for class if you do not own one.  If you borrow a club shotgun, you must purchase club ammunition for the class.

Required Materials: Shotgun, 50 rounds of ammunition (light trap loads only), eye and hearing protection, and a bag lunch and drinks (all can be purchased at the range).

NRA-NMLRA Basic Muzzleloading Rifle Shooting Course
A fourteen-hour class in basic muzzleloading rifle safety and marksmanship. Approximately 1/3 of the class consists of live-firing on the range. Firing will be done with flintlocks, side lock percussion rifles and in-line percussion rifles.

Upon successful completion of the class the student will know:

  • The 3 Rules of Gun Safety
  • The Nomenclature and Parts of Rifles
  • Black powder Safety and Loading of the Muzzleloading Rifle
  • Firing the Muzzleloading Rifle from the Bench rest Position
  • Shooting from the Standing Position
  • Shooting from the Crossed-Stick Position
  • Cleaning and Safe Storage of Muzzleloading Rifles
  • Recreational Opportunities Available

Classes are conducted from 9:30am to about 4:30pm each day in “The Chalet” and on the members-only rifle range.

Cost: $60.00 per student. Course fee includes all necessary equipment and materials such as firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, targets, educational materials, etc.

Students under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by their parent.

Required Materials: A bagged lunch each day – or you may opt to visit any of the many fast food restaurants in the area. You may bring your own black powder rifle(s) if you wish. Please wear long sleeve shirts and clothing made of natural fabrics. NO SYNTHETICS!

NRA Basic Rifle
An eight-hour class in basic rifle safety and marksmanship. Approximately 1/2 of the class consists of live-firing on the range. Firing will be done with .22LR rifles.

Upon successful completion of the class the student will know:

  • The 3 Rules of Gun Safety
  • The Nomenclature and Parts of Rifles
  • Rifle Shooting Fundamentals
  • Cleaning and Safe Storage of Rifles
  • Recreational Opportunities Available

This one-day class is conducted on the fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00am to about 5:30pm each day in “The Clubhouse” and on the range. There is an option to cover additional material or conduct additional shooting on Sunday, at no extra cost.

Cost: $99.00 per student. Course fee includes use of firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection.

Students under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by their parent.

Required Materials: a bagged lunch each day.

NRA Basic Pistol

The ILT format is a two-day instructor led course that includes all of the material students need for the class.  The ILT class is conducted on the second weekend of each month.  Class is begins at 9:30 AM on Saturday and concludes at 5 PM. Sunday’s class begins at 9 AM and concludes at 4 PM.

The cost for either format is $99 per student and is non-refundable.  The course fee includes use of firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection.

Students under the age of 21 MUST be accompanied by a legal guardian through the entirety of the class.

Required Materials: Bring your own eye and ear protection if you have it, otherwise it will be provided.  Please bring a bag lunch each day.

Payment ​can be at the time of registration ​or any time prior to the conclusion of the class. DO NOT MAKE PAYMENT ON THE NRA SITE; PAYMENT SHOULD BE MADE TO THE KENMORE RANGE. Class is limited to the first 10 students.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home

Short Description: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

More Details: Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
Description: This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Range Safety Officer / Chief Range Safety Officer Certification Courses

We periodically offer the NRA Range Safety Officer class to certify range and match personnel on the safe supervision of shooting range operations.

Range Safety Officer (RSO) Certification Course

Prerequisite – Candidates must be 21 years old AND an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer prior to attending the Chief Range Safety Officer Training.
A two-day course consisting of two parts:
Part One: Basic Instructor Training – BIT (7 hours)
(NOTE: NRA Certified Instructors do not need to re-take BIT, but must re-take the Trainer’s
Exam if they have not taken it within the last 12 months.)
Part Two: Chief Range Safety Officer Training (9 hours)

NOTE: Chief Range Safety Officers, in addition to all the rights and responsibilities of Range Safety Officers, are also qualified and certified to TEACH other candidates to become NRA Certified Range Safety Officers. As such, this requires the CRSO candidate to become an NRA Certified Instructor and requires additional training.
CRSO candidates who are currently-certified NRA Instructors are not required to attend Part One: Basic Instructor Training, but may be required to re-take the Trainer’s Exam if they have not taken it in the previous 12 months.

Upon successful completion of the class the candidate will know:

How to teach the Range Safety Officer Class According to the Policies, Procedures and Lesson Plans of the NRA

Classes are conducted from 9:30am to about 6:00pm each day in “The Chalet” and includes visiting a live range.

Cost: $125.00 per student. Course fee includes all materials and NRA certification fees.
Students are restricted to those 21 years old or older.

Required Materials: A bagged lunch – or you may opt to visit any of the many fast food restaurants in the area. You are encouraged to bring and demonstrate one or two “unique” firearms (you MUST be familiar with the operation of the firearm) which others may not have previously seen. You may also bring a copy of your home club’s “standard operation procedures” manual (SOP) for comparison and discussion.
